Domicile Number in Pakistan: What It Is and Why It Matters

A domicile no. is the reference number given to your certificate when the district office issues it. It identifies that one certificate in the system. Forms and portals use it to confirm you hold a valid domicile. It is not your CNIC number, and it is not your tracking ID.

Your domicile proves that you are a permanent resident of a district. The Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) or Assistant Commissioner’s (AC) office issues it under the Pakistan Citizenship Act, 1951. ICT Administration names that Act as the relevant law on its Islamabad domicile page. It also states that a domicile can be obtained from one city only.

That last point matters. Because you can hold only one, the number on your certificate is the single reference that belongs to you. Mix it up with another number and your form can get rejected.

What Is Domicile Number in Pakistan?

It is the certificate’s own reference number. The issuing office assigns it when your application is approved and the certificate is printed. Think of it like a serial number for that one document.

1. Find the heading that says “Certificate of Domicile” and the district name.
2. Look directly under or beside the heading for a line marked “No.” or “Certificate No.”
3. Check that the date sits next to it. The number and the issue date are usually printed together.
4. Do not copy the CNIC number from the applicant details in the body of the certificate.
5. Read the number slowly, including any letters or dashes, and copy it exactly.

One honest limit. I have not seen a single fixed layout that fits every district and every year. Older manual certificates and newer computerised prints can look different. Use this as a guide to where to look, not as a promise about where it must be.

Where Is Domicile Number on Certificate Sindh? (What to Look For)

Sindh certificates are issued district by district through DC offices. I could not find one official layout that applies across all districts, so I won’t guess a position for you.

Here is what works. Look for a line marked “No.”, “Certificate No.” or “Domicile No.”, usually near the issue date. Then compare it with what the Sindh verification tool shows for your CNIC, such as the issue date, tehsil and district. If the details match but you still can’t spot the number, ask the DC office that issued your certificate.

Punjab, KPK and Islamabad: What to Expect

Each region treats the number a little differently.

• Punjab: The Form P1 sample has a “No.” line beside the date. The Punjab portal accepts either a CNIC or a domicile no.
• KPK: The Citizens Facilitation Portal has a box labelled “CNIC/Form-B/Domicile No”, so the number does count in that system.
• Islamabad: ICT Administration tells you to verify with your CNIC in the City Islamabad App. Many people never need the number at all.

Common Mistakes When Copying the Number from Your Certificate

Most failed checks come from small slips, not big problems. These are the ones worth avoiding.

• Copying the wrong line. The date, or a CNIC printed elsewhere on the page, can look like the reference. Use the line labelled “No.” only.

Start with the portal that matches the district where you got your domicile. A Punjab domicile will not show up on the KPK portal, and the other way round.

Lost or Very Old Certificate: What to Do at Your AC/DC Office

If the certificate is lost, or so old that no portal shows it, go to the office that issued it. Carry your original CNIC and a photocopy. Ask two things: can they read out the certificate number from their record, and what is the process for a duplicate?

Walking in prepared saves you a second trip. Keep your request short and specific.

Bring your original CNIC and one photocopy. Bring any copy of the old certificate, even a photo on your phone. If you still hold an application receipt, bring that too.

2. Can I get a duplicate or a certified copy, and what do you need from me?
3. How long will it take, and where do I collect it?

What Is Domicile Number in Sindh, and How Does the Domicile/PRC Status Check Work?

In Sindh, the certificate number works the same way as elsewhere: it identifies one certificate issued by one district office. But the tools you meet online are usually built around your CNIC instead.

One Sindh-facing lookup I opened is labelled “Domicile/PRC Status”. You type your CNIC and it returns fields like name, date of birth, tehsil, district, issue date and status. Domicile Number Check Online: Step-by-Step for Each Province

For a domicile number check, open your province’s official portal and enter your CNIC. Punjab and KPK also accept the certificate’s own number. Islamabad uses the City Islamabad App. Sindh runs through district portals. A match shows your record. No match does not always mean the certificate is fake.

How to Read Your Verification Result

A result page only helps if you compare it properly. Depending on the portal, it may show your name, father’s or spouse’s name, date of birth, tehsil, district, issue date and status. The Sindh-facing lookup I opened lists exactly those fields.

Put your certificate next to the screen and check each line:

• Is your name spelled the same way?
• Does the father’s or husband’s name match?
• Do the district and tehsil match?
• Is the issue date the same as on the certificate?
• What does the status field say about your record?

If everything lines up, your domicile is on record. If one detail is off, note exactly which one. A single spelling mismatch is easier to fix when you can name it to the office.

Punjab: Domicile Management System

To check your record:

1. Open domicile.punjab.gov.pk.
2. Find the verification box. The portal asks you to enter a CNIC number or a domicile no.
3. Type it in and search.
4. Read the details that come up and compare them with your certificate.

The portal’s own wording says online verification covers domiciles from 15 January 2015 to date. That date is worth remembering. A certificate issued before it may not appear.

Domicile Number Check KPK

KPK uses the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Citizens Facilitation Portal. When I opened the verification page, the box read “CNIC/Form-B/Domicile No”, with the Urdu label ڈومیسائل کی تصدیق above it.

1. Go to cfc.kp.gov.pk.
2. Open the menu and choose “Domicile Online Verification” under Misc.
3. Enter your CNIC, Form-B number or domicile no.
4. Press Verify.

The page lists 091-9225484 for technical support only. For questions about your file itself, use the departmental contacts on the portal.

Sindh and Karachi: CNIC-Based Checks

Sindh is less uniform. Verification pages exist for individual districts, and most ask for a CNIC. The DC Malir Karachi portal, for example, asks you to enter a CNIC in the xxxxx-xxxxxxx-x format and checks your domicile processing status.

Use the same steps as above: open the portal, enter your CNIC with dashes in the right places, and search. Then confirm two things on the result: your district and the issue date. If they match your certificate, you are fine. If your district has no portal, your DC office is the answer.

Islamabad: City Islamabad App

ICT Administration handles Islamabad verification through an app. Its page gives four steps:

1. Download the City Islamabad App from Google Play or the App Store.
2. Open the app and register an account.
3. Go to the Domicile tab and choose Verification.
4. Enter your CNIC number and press Verify.

Remember the one-city rule. ICT says a domicile can be obtained from one city only. If your CNIC carries two addresses, you must bring a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your native district when applying.

Islamabad: If You Still Need to Apply or Cancel

Maybe the app finds nothing because you never applied in Islamabad. ICT Administration lists a clear route. You visit the Citizen Facilitation Center at G-11/4, collect a token, and go through data entry. Then you pay the fee and receive an e-receipt.

For applicants aged 21 or above, ICT asks for a CNIC copy that is at least one year old and the father’s or husband’s CNIC copy. You also need proof of residence in Islamabad, such as an allotment letter or lease agreement. One original electricity or gas bill for the residence is required as well. Applicants must appear in person with original documents.

ICT lists a processing time of seven days. The centre is open Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with a Friday break from 12:30 to 2:30 PM. For cancelling an Islamabad domicile, ICT asks for a CNIC copy, a request letter and the original certificate. The helpline listed on its page is 051-8899611.

“No record found” usually means the portal could not match your CNIC or number to a record it holds. Common causes are a typing error, the wrong province’s portal, or a certificate issued before the portal’s start date. It does not prove that your certificate is invalid.

Before you panic, run through these possible reasons:

• Typing mistakes. One wrong digit or a missing dash in the CNIC is enough.
• Wrong portal. A Punjab certificate will not appear in KPK’s system.
• Older certificate. Punjab’s portal states its verification covers domiciles from 15 January 2015 to date. Earlier ones may not be listed.
• Manual certificate. A paper certificate may never have been entered into an online system.
• Different details. Your name or CNIC on the record may not match what you typed.

These are possible causes, not guarantees. Each district office keeps its own records, and only they can tell you why your file does not show.

1. Retype your CNIC slowly and check every digit and dash.
2. Confirm you are on the portal for the province that issued your certificate.
3. Try the same check again after a few hours, in case the portal was slow.
4. Visit the issuing office with your CNIC and certificate if it still shows nothing.

Where Do You Actually Need Your Domicile No.?

You typically need it for university admissions, government job applications and competitive exams that use domicile-based quotas. Some forms ask only for your CNIC and check the record themselves. Read each form’s instructions to see exactly what they want.

Public-sector recruitment and quota-based admissions are the most common cases. Commission-based exams such as PPSC and FPSC are typical examples where domicile matters. Some scholarship programmes ask for it too. Always follow the exact wording in the advertisement or admission notice.

A quick scenario. A student applies for a public-sector university seat under a district quota. The form has three boxes: CNIC, domicile district and domicile no. She fills the first two from memory and copies the third straight from her certificate. Her application goes through. The habit worth copying is that last step.

Admissions and Quota Seats

Public universities often reserve seats by district or province. Those seats depend on the district shown on your domicile. Admission offices may ask for the certificate copy, the number, or both. If the notice lists a “Domicile No.” field, fill it from the certificate, not from memory.

It is safe only on official portals. Use the link published by your province’s government or your DC office. Avoid sites that ask for payment, an OTP or a photo of your CNIC just to “find” your number. Your CNIC is sensitive data, so treat every website with care.

Not every real portal ends in .gov.pk. Some district portals run on .com addresses. So confirm the link on your DC office’s official page before you type anything.
